For Researchers

For Researchers

Our Museum building closed to the public in June 2023 for capital renovations. During this time, the Goodwin Library and Robert L. Weinberg Family History Center is temporarily closed to in-person researchers. Reference services provided by email and phone will remain available in Summer 2023, though we anticipate longer wait times as construction work limits access to portions of our collections.

For reference inquiries, please email research@jewishmuseummd.org. We’ll do our best to respond to your inquiry within three weeks.

Resources

Making our collections more accessible to researchers, both on-site and remote, is an ongoing project. More about our unique resources, including links to online-viewable lists and databases whenever possible, can be found here.

Remote Research

Collections staff and volunteers are glad to answer short, simple research queries free of charge via phone or email (email is preferred). For more substantial requests, there is a fee of $25 per hour for non-members, $15 per hour for JMM members. In either case, we ask that you provide as much information about your request and your research goals as possible, so that we may assist you efficiently. Please note that it is not always possible for someone to respond to your request immediately; messages are usually responded to within a two week period.

Referrals

We will do our best to suggest other Maryland repositories and resources that may help you in your research.

Reproduction Requests

Digital reproductions of images, documents, and recordings – as well as object photographs – are available for most of our collections. Fees vary, depending on the proposed use, and terms apply. You can download a copy of the reproduction form, which includes the fee schedule.
