Being Educated in the Third Reich: The Discovery of Nazi Textbooks

In Germany, following WWII, it was illegal to be in possession of Nazi textbooks. More than 20 years ago, Dr. Ketko discovered stockpikles of Swaztika laden textbooks published between 1933 and 1945.

Her book, “Ice Creatures – The Nazi Educational System,” explores her findins and seeks to decipher their effective and captivating psychological impact. She shares the secret of the success of Nazism based on those books, attempting to understand the sorcerous process that consumed millions of Germans.

Dr. Tamar Ketko served as a military teacher in the Israeli Defense forces. She was head of the Philosophy Department at the Kibbutzim College of education in Tel Aviv and now heads the Humanities and Culture Department. She is the creator, director and historical researcher of a selection of documentary TV series and films about the Second World War. She is head of Regev – the Israel Ministry of Education’s Excellence Program for Teachers. Dr. Ketko has been the Curator of the Museum of the Jewish Soldier in WWII since 2004. She is also a renowned author of scientific books and articles on WWII and Holocaust education.
