The JMM brings you another exciting culinary championship! This year we take inspiration from the season. With the approach of December holidays, what could be more perfect than holiday cookies? Show us you family favorite or create a new tradition. We are looking for delicious cookies that can be given as gifts or shared by the whole family, something that looks great and tastes event better!

Once again we invite Maryland’s greatest amateur bakers from newbies to bubbies to participate in this important statewide search: The Great Jewish Bake Off of 2019!

Even if you choose not to compete we encourage you to join us at the JMM for a day dedicated to baking, with tastings, tips from professionals and the announcement of Maryland’s greatest amateur baker 2019. We’ll also have hands-on activities for the family!

Awards

The bake off will be a little different this year to allow for even more creativity! There will be no formal categories, instead we have created 6 special awards that will celebrate the amazing baking skills of our entrants.

Bake Off Champion 2019 – The best of the bunch, practically perfect in every way.

Most Moorish – The one that you keep going back to again and again and again ……

Most Impressive – The one we almost can’t bear to eat, almost!

Most on Theme – The one that makes us most think of Hanukkah.

People’s Choice – The one loved by all.

Under 16 Champion – The one by the greatest baker of tomorrow.

Rules

This competition is open to all amateur cooks residing in Maryland.

Three spaces will be reserved for entrants under 16 years of age, if these places are not filled by Monday, December 9th, they will be offered to cooks on the waiting list.

Each entrant should provide at least 100 servings of their bake –  remember the more you provide the better your chances of winning the People’s Choice Award.

All entrants should be in the museum by 12:30pm on the day of the competition, ready to serve by 1pm.

Winners of each award, plus an overall winner, will be announced at 3pm.

All awards will be awarded based upon the opinions of our panel of judges, with the exception of the People’s Choice award which will be given to the bake that receives the most votes in the public vote.

Entrants must stay with their bake throughout the judging period to serve and answer questions.

While there are no limits to creativity, we do ask that all bakes conform to kosher standards. This means that all entries must be vegetarian (dairy or pareve) and only consist of kosher ingredients.
