18 Stones imagines the story of a Jewish family living in Holland in the 1930s and 40s. Inspired by a collection of family photographs, Nancy Patz’s rich portraits and Susan L. Roth’s thought provoking prose poems portray a Dutch family’s everyday experiences on the eve of the Holocaust.

Patz and Roth have each written many prize-winning children’s books. 18 Stones is their first collaborative book for adults.

Book Talk and Signing at the Myerberg Center

June 14, 2011 7-9 / FREE

Part of the SALON Series at the Edward A. Myerberg Center

This candid, intimate, and self-reflective account brings to life the relationship between a daughter and her father, who suffered from dementia.  A native of Baltimore, Susan Garbett developed a better understanding of dementia/Alzheimer's disease after witnessing her father's cognitive decline.  The story vividly describes the everyday challenges and stresses that families and colleagues may face.
