Clark Kent’s Bar Mitzvah Party

Posted on November 16th, 2002 by

A super boy will become Superman, and all of Baltimore is invited to join in the festivities at the Jewish Museum of Maryland (JMM).  In honor of our current exhibit, ZAP! POW! BAM! The Superhero: The Golden Age of Comic Books, 1938 – 1950, the JMM is throwing a party to celebrate an American icon, Superman.

Seventy-five years ago thanks to Jewish artists, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, Superman, along with his alter ego, Clark Kent, was born.  As he has grown up, Superman has saved the world, not to mention Lois Lane, countless times in comic books and on the big screen.  He’s turned into a real Mensch, a grown man that any family, be it the Kents of Kansas or the El family of Krypton, would be very proud to call their son.  To mark the opening weekend of the new Man of Steel movie, we are preparing a coming-of-age extravaganza of epic proportions to celebrate Clark!  Bring your opening weekend movie ticket stub and get a discount on admission!

Visit the Jewish Museum of Maryland from 1 – 4pm to be part of the party.  Meet Superman and wish him Mazel Tov!  Watch as he honors friends and family that have helped him grow into the Superman we know and love.  Enjoy music, dancing, food, and of course a special Bar Mitzvah cake!  Play games and make a special t-shirt to take home so you can remember Clark Kent’s special day long after it has ended.

Admission to the Museum during this event is $5 for individual members, $10 for individual non-members, $13 for member families, $18 for non-member families.  In addition to the party, take one of our hourly tours of our two historic synagogues.  Visit the Zap! Pow! Bam! exhibit and learn all about the golden age of comic books.

To learn more about the event or to RSVP for the party, contact or call 410-732-6400 ext. 215.

The ZAP! POW! BAM! exhibition at the Jewish Museum of Maryland is supported in part by a grant from the David and Barbara B. Hirschhorn Foundation and from the Herbert Bearman Foundation. Support is also provided by the Maryland State Arts Council, and the following JMM Exhibition Endowment Funds: the Hoffberger Family, Stanford Z. and Cory Rothschild, and Harry and Jeanette Weinberg.
