Membership at the Jewish Museum of Maryland
It’s the New Year, and among the resolutions and celebrations we’re introducing our brand new Membership program! Revamped and revitalized, membership at the JMM is now better than ever – with new categories, benefits, and discounts to enrich every visit to the Museum for you and your friends and families.
All members will receive our monthly e-newsletter Museum Matters (what you’re reading right now!), along with a 10% discount at the Museum store, free general admission to the Museum, free admission to all regular programs, attendance at exclusive member opening events and discounted weekday parking at the City-owned garage at 1001 E. Fayette Street.
One of the major changes is the addition of two new individual categories of membership. The first is our Student, Teacher, and Active Military Membership. This special discount membership receives all the benefits listed above for $25. We’re also offering a “four year scholarship” program, which includes four years of membership for students with ID for $75 – the perfect gift for your favorite student! Students should be enrolled in an accredited community college, 4 year college or university as an undergraduate or graduate student. Please note the Museum will continue to be a Blue Star Museum, offering free admission from Memorial Day to Labor Day for active duty service people and their families.
The second new individual membership is our Senior Member (65+). This $35 membership includes all the regular benefits of membership along with a $5 discount for special programs. We are also introducing our “Wednesday Friends-Day” special – Senior Members are invited to bring a friend to the Museum for free every Wednesday!
Our regular Individual Membership, $50, includes free general admission to the Museum, a $5 discount for special programs, and two (2) free one-time admission passes. Our Family Membership, $75, includes free general admission for up to six family members plus a 50% discounted admission for additional family members. This membership also includes a $5 discount for special programs and two (2) free one-time admission passes.
You might have noticed a new phrase above – “special programs.” Most programs at the JMM are included free with the price of admission (which means totally free for our members). Some examples of our regular programs include our popular author talks, like our recent program with Michael Lisicky and his Department Stores book, and our Family Days, full of crafts and activities especially designed for families with young children. Special programs are those with an additional fee. One example is our annual Purim Pandemonium event, a late-night themed dance party that includes a DJ, open bar, and access to the exhibits. Tickets for Purim Pandemonium are regularly $20. Members (starting at the regular Individual Membership level) will be able to purchase tickets for $15.
The other major changes to our membership program are in our Premium Memberships. The Museum will now offer four (4) categories of premium membership – the Lombard Street Club, the Living History Circle, the Lloyd Street League, and the 1845 Society. All members at the premium levels receive reciprocal admission to a number of Jewish museums across the nation, including the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles, the Jewish Museum and Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York, and the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage in Ohio. Premium level members also receive reciprocal admission to a variety of history museums located in Baltimore, including the Baltimore Museum of Industry, the Carroll Museums, the Homewood House Museum, and the Reginald F. Lewis Museum. See our website for complete lists of participating museums.
The Lombard Street Club, $150, includes all the benefits of the Family Membership, the reciprocal admission cards and free admission for two (2) to one special program. Lombard Street Club members also receive special discounts at neighboring delis Attman’s and Lenny’s.
The Living History Circle, $250, includes all the benefits of the Lombard Street Club as well as one Museum-selected publication every year, free admission for two (2) to two special programs and two (2) seats at an exclusive annual living history performance followed by a conversation with the actor.
The Lloyd Street League, $500, receives all the benefits of the Living History Circle as well as free admission for two (2) to all special programs and two (2) seats at the exclusive annual Lloyd Street League tea with feature speaker. Lloyd Street League members receive a “sponsored day at the Museum,” and will be recognized in the Museum’s Annual Report.
What is a “sponsored day” at the Museum? Inspired by the long standing day sponsorship program on public radio, the Sponsored Day program is a way for Lloyd Street League and 1845 Society members to select a day the Museum is open to the public and be acknowledged – or honor someone else. Members select a date and personalized message that will be displayed in the Museum lobby and on-line at the Museum’s website. Messages will need approval from our Director, but we’re happy to help Members compose their messages. It’s the perfect way to celebrate a wedding or bar mitzvah, honor a loved one’s memory, or just share your support for the Museum.
The 1845 Society, $1000, receives all the benefits of the Lloyd Street League as well as two “sponsored days at the Museum,” recognition in the Museum’s Annual Report and a private tour for up to 20 people, personally led by the Museum’s Director.
