Every summer, thousands of Jewish children gather in parking lots, railway stations, and airports as they say goodbye to parents, greet old friends, and await transportation to summer camp. Going to camp is a pivotal coming-of-age ritual. Living away from family, learning to get along with others, and gaining new skills are key ingredients of the camping experience.

Those attending a camp where Jewish religion and culture play a prominent role benefit from being part of a community where everyday living is infused with Judaism. At these camps, children observe Shabbat, eat kosher food, recite prayers before and after meals, sing Hebrew songs, and become friends with Israeli staff and campers. All these influences are integrated seamlessly into the daily rhythms of camp, creating a vibrant environment that fosters Jewish commitment and continuity.
