SUMMARY:Crossroads Opening: Members Morning Preview
DESCRIPTION:JMM Friends and Members are invited to join the Jewish Museum of Maryland for a private preview of the new core exhibition Jews of Maryland at the Crossroads of Identity. Curated by Judy Margles\, JMM’s original core exhibition provides a statewide historical exploration of social\, cultural\, and religious identity through the lens of Maryland’s Jewish experience.  \nAt the heart of the exhibition is the 1826 Maryland Jew Bill\, granting Jews the right to hold public office—an early victory for religious freedom in America. This milestone paved the way for deeper Jewish participation in civic life\, yet also underscores the broader struggles for equality\, as racial discrimination against black and marginalized communities remained deeply entrenched. Through immersive storytelling\, artifacts\, archival materials\, and original short films\, the exhibition illuminates the complexities of religious and cultural integration while celebrating Jewish resilience and contributions to the nation’s history over time and into the present. \nAttendees will have the opportunity to receive a welcome from JMM Executive Director Sol Davis\, hear brief remarks from curator Judy Margles\, explore the exhibition\, and engage with the exhibits team in the gallery. Attendees can also visit the Museum’s production studio to share reflections in connection to the exhibition\, contributing to the exhibition’s interactive element. \nLight kosher refreshments will be served. \nNot a JMM Member yet? You can learn more about our Friends and Members programs here: Membership – Jewish Museum of Maryland \nAccessibility: The Museum building\, including the family and all-gender single-stall bathroom\, is wheelchair accessible. Masks are welcome but not required. Complimentary masks will be available for anyone who would like one. Noise-reducing headphones and earplugs are available upon request at the front desk. American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation will be available by request.  \nParking: Street parking is available in the neighborhood. Visitors are strongly encouraged to read parking signs with care. \nFor questions\, please contact info@jewishmuseummd.org or 410.732.6400. \nRegistration is encouraged\, but not required.
