Jews in Space: Curators’ Talk

Recorded on Thursday, September 10, 2020
Speakers: Melanie Meyers, The Center for Jewish History and Eddy Portnoy, YIVO Institute for Jewish Research
Jews in Space: Members of the Tribe in Orbit originally opened at The Center for Jewish History in February 2018 and was one of the most popular exhibits of the year. The exhibit was the brainchild of co-curators Eddy Portnoy and Melanie Meyers, who created the exhibit content by drawing from multiple library and archival sources to show the intersection of Jewish history and the history of space travel. Tracing the narrative thread from early astronomy books to present day Jewish astronauts, the exhibition spans centuries of science and literature to create a witty and engaging look at space and science fiction, through a Jewish lens.
Opening Sunday, September 13, 2020 at The Jewish Museum of Maryland, come to hear co-curators Melanie Meyers and Eddy Portnoy speak on the creation and design of the exhibition, with the inside story on how some of the amazing objects were integrated into the content.
This live stream Zoom event is presented in relation to the special exhibit Jews in Space: Members of the Tribe in Orbit, on view September 13, 2020 through April 11, 2021.
