Egypt was once home to a flourishing Jewish community, but today few Jewish people remain. Join Jean Naggar, author of Sipping from the Nile: My Exodus from Egypt, as she recounts her memories of growing up in this vibrant community and discusses the profound impact the Suez Crisis had on her family and the wider Jewish community in Egypt.


Jean Nag­gar is the founder of the Jean V. Nag­gar Lit­er­ary Agency (JVN­LA), which she has presided over for 40 years. She is also the author of a mem­oir, Sip­ping From The Nile: My Exo­dus From Egypt, and a nov­el, Foot­prints on the Heart. Her poetry has been featured in in The Listener and Athanor, and she has been published in The New York Times, The Village Voice, Publishers Weekly, and Writer’s Digest.

Mother of three and grandmother of seven, Jean is a past president of the the Association of Authors’ Representatives and a member of the Authors’ Guild, the International Women’s Forum, and the Women’s Media Group. She was honored as Woman of the Year by the WMG in 2018.
