Adina Cimet was born in Mexico City to Eastern European parents and grew up in a Yiddish speaking home. She earned her degree in Sociology from UNAM University in Mexico City and received her master’s and PHD in Sociology from the London School of Economics and Columbia, respectively. 

She is the author of the books Ashkenazi Jews in Mexico; Ideologies in the Structuring of a Community (SUNY Press) and Jewish Lublin, A Cultural Monograph (Marie-Curie Sklodowska University Press). Cimet has also served as the director of the Educational Program of Yiddish Culture for the YIVO Institute in New York and has lectured widely at institutions in the United States, Mexico, and Europe.
