Museum Visits
Our onsite group tours are led by volunteer docents. For the best visitor experience, our maximum group size is 25 people. If you are looking to book a larger group, please contact the Visitor Services Coordinator so they can work with you to accommodate your group. If you need a smaller group size to accommodate people who may feel overwhelmed by crowds, please contact the Visitor Services Coordinator. We can make special arrangements, based on need.

Digital Tours
Our digital group tours are led by our Visitor Experiences Coordinator and are presented via our JMM Pro Zoom account. Groups of more than 25 devices will be charged a small additional fee.

Onsite tours are available Monday-Wednesdayfrom 10am-12pm.

Digital Tours are available Sunday – Thursday, usually 10 am – 4 pm. The Visitor Experiences Coordinator can accommodate alternative times but requires at least two weeks advance notice for times outside of these hours.

Our digital tours typically last 1 hour. This includes a 45 minute presentation and time for discussion and questions.

Depending on the type of tour selected, a group visit can last 1 hour or 2 hours. Your group can combine a visit to see our current exhibition (1 hour) with a guided tour of our two historic synagogues (1 hour). Please refer to the tour descriptions to see the length of each tour offered.

For digital groups, the fee is a flat rate of $50 for a group of 25 devices or less. The price includes the time of a JMM staff member. If your group is larger than 25 devices, there is an additional charge of $25 to cover the costs of an additional staff member.

Payments may be made via check or credit card, collected before or on the day of the digital tour. Checks should be made out to The Jewish Museum of Maryland and mailed:

During this health crisis, we recognize the hardship that people are facing financially. If your group is unable to handle this fee for a digital tour, please contact the Visitor Services Coordinator to arrange an alternative.

We strive to make our digital tours as accessible as possible. Please let us know if there is a particular accessibility resource that would make your experience even better. This may include a sign language interpreter, closed captioning, an edited tour, and more.

The Museum entrance, galleries, and restrooms are fully accessible.

Please note that both Synagogues, Lloyd Street Synagogue and B’nai Israel Synagogue, are neither walker nor wheelchair friendly. It is necessary to climb stairs to enter the main sanctuaries of both Synagogues. There is a short video tour of the two Synagogues available as an alternative. Please request this video at the time of your booking.

With advance notice, the Museum is happy to provide additional assistance for groups in need of special accommodations, such as sign language interpreters.

Restrooms are located inside the Museum, adjacent to the orientation space. Water fountains are located near the restrooms. There are also restrooms in Lloyd Street Synagogue.

Discover the story of Lloyd Street Synagogue, the first synagogue built in Maryland, and the three immigrant congregations that worshipped there. Then, visit B’nai Israel Synagogue which has been home to the B’nai Israel Congregation for over 100 years.

The synagogue tours require walking up and down short flights of stairs. With advance notice, the Visitor Experiences Coordinator can provide an alternative video in the accessible Museum building.

Self-Guided Tour
Length: 30 minutes to 1 hour

The neighborhood surrounding the Jewish Museum of Maryland was the center of immigrant Jewish life in Baltimore during the early 1900s. Today only a few remnants of its Jewish past survive. Voices of Lombard Street tells the story of this historic neighborhood from then until now. The exhibition chronicles a place of constant change, where people of different backgrounds lived, worked, created community – and came together in the renowned Jewish market known as Lombard Street.

The exhibit is currently on display in the Jewish Museum of Maryland’s Shoshana S. and Jerome Cardin Exhibition Gallery. This gallery is accessible for people with mobility aids.

Ida’s story is the classic immigrant narrative of creating a home in a new and unfamiliar place. Ida Rehr will retell the story of how she came to the United States by herself at the young age of fifteen, found work as a seamstress in a clothing factory, and attended night school to learn English.

Before “community organizing” had a name, there was Henrietta Szold – the rabbi’s daughter who broke with the traditional role of women to become a champion of Jewish engagement. Her tenacity and courage played a vital role in the expansion of social services, medical services and the founding of the state of Israel.  Hear her story in her own words.

Harry Houdini wasn’t born. He was invented. The world’s most famous magician began life as Erik Weisz, the son of a Hungarian rabbi. In 1878, immigration to the U.S. transformed Erik Weisz to Erich Weiss. It was the first of many transformations for the man who would become the first international superstar. The living history performance tells the story of how Erich Weiss became Harry Houdini and investigates the technologies, marketing prowess, and entertainment trends that transformed him into a superstar.
