JMM Insights: Favorites from Esther’s Place

Esther's Place Storefront

This week’s edition of JMM Insights comes from Chris Sniezek, Administrative Coordinator.

At the beginning of the pandemic, when everyone was stuck inside, the Washington Post reported on “The Great Decluttering of 2020.” For many people, spending more time among their stuff let them re-familiarize with what they actually had.

At the JMM, I recently completed the yearly inventory check. Inventorying is always a great way to refresh myself on what we have on the shelf and in storage.

However, sometimes there is no need for a reminder about our favorite items. JMM volunteers are incredibly familiar with the shop. While they have been unable to come onsite for over a year and a half, they still know their favorite items and want to share some of their picks with you below.

All these items are perfect for yourself or to give as gifts. Make sure you check out the full selection of items available through Esther’s Place online. From books to jewelry to toys and more, you’re certain to find favorites of your own.

Shop volunteer Laraine has this to say about the selection of candles offered in Esther’s Place:

Chanukah Candles Premium and Natural Wax

“I love the selection of Chanukah candles. They make a wonderful present to yourself or to give as a gift. My friends have been most appreciative and loved the candles. I have bought them several times as gifts when I am invited to someone’s house who I know would use the candles.”

She is particularly fond of both the premium, hand-dipped white candles and the ecofriendly hand-dipped white candles.

Another shop volunteer, Rachel, likes the butterfly Inquisition necklace sold at Esther’s place. Here, she says:

Butterfly Star of David Necklace

“As a star of David when closed, the necklace is a classy way of expressing one’s Jewish identity. As butterflies when opened, it pays homage to Jews who weren’t able to express themselves fully. Enough “bling” to make it stand out, but simple enough to wear with anything, the necklace has character.”

Jewish Penicillin Soup Mugs

Finally, I would like to share one of my favorite items, the Jewish Penicillin mugs. I have purchased a couple for myself and use them pretty much daily. In fact, as I type this, I’m taking a sip out of my lime green one!
