Museum Matters: Marking the Year

March 2021 marks one year since the effects of the global COVID-19 pandemic began sweeping across the United States. One year since work-from-home became the reality for so many, and since front line workers began risking their lives each day. One year since we started masking up and stopped hugging one another.

Then came social unrest and mass protests, followed by a contentious election and the events of January 6th, 2021. This year that we’ve lived through will undoubtedly go down in history. Here at JMM, we’re thinking about how our collections evidence this moment. How will future researchers and storytellers learn about what we’re feeling at this anniversary?

We’re Marking the Year by collecting community stories. What have you learned over the past year? Has your Jewish identity been shaped by recent events?

We want to learn, preserve, and share your story, so we’ve assembled a series of prompts and created a space for reflection.

Whether you write a sentence for each or a collection of short essays, we hope that you’ll add your voice to the historical record today by visiting Marking the Year.
