Join us as author Jack Sacco shares the realistic, harrowing, at times horrifying, and ultimately triumphant tale of an American GI in World War II as seen through the eyes of his father, Joe Sacco — a farm boy from Alabama who landed at Omaha Beach, fought his way through Europe, and liberated the Nazi concentration camp at Dachau.
About the author:
Jack Sacco was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama, and educated at the University of Notre Dame, where he earned a degree in engineering. He is the author of Where the Birds Never Sing, winner of the Alabama Library Association’s 2005 Nonfiction Award and Above the Treetops.
An accomplished public speaker, Jack Sacco has lectured at the University of Notre Dame, Yale University, the University of Alabama, and UCLA, among others, as well as libraries, conferences, and special gatherings throughout the US and abroad. He has also been the featured speaker at Maissau Castle in Vienna, Austria, where he addressed heads of the Royal Families of Europe, including the Habsburgs, the Liechtensteins, and the Luxembourgs.
