Under-16 Champion: Great-Grandma Bella’s Spiced-Up Old World Kichlach

Great Grandma’s Kichlach by Lena Stoltze

Ingredients:

1 6 oz can frozen orange juice

6 oz vegetable oil

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 pinch salt

2 eggs

sugar to taste

zest of 1 lemon

1 Tablespoon fresh lemon juice

zest of 1 orange

3 cups flour cups

Sugar and Cinnamon to roll or dust (*Rolls can be filled with other flavors such as jams, nutella, nut butters, or chocolate chips!)

 

Instructions:

Mix together the vegetable oil, frozen orange juice, baking soda, baking powder and salt.  Let fizz.

Add flour gradually, mixing until dough is formed stiff but not dry.

Divide dough into four balls, wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for one hour.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Remove dough from fridge and roll out to a uniform thickness.

Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar. Then either roll the dough up and slice into pieces or cut the dough into shapes.

Bake at 350 degrees.
