Inspired by the success of our Great Chicken Soup Cook Off the JMM couldn’t resist the opportunity to stage another culinary championship! This year’s star is everyone’s favorite Jewish side dish – Kugel! Once again we invite Maryland’s greatest amateur cooks from newbies to bubbies to participate in this important statewide search: The Great Kugel Cook Off of 2017!
Even if you choose not to compete we encourage you to join us at the JMM for a day dedicated to kugel with tastings, tips from professionals and the announcement of Maryland’s greatest kugel. We’ll also have hands-on activities for the family, including building model sukkahs and creating pasta-based stained glass art!

Categories
The cook off will consist of three separate categories. Prizes will be awarded to the winner of each category plus an overall “Best Kugel” winner.
Sweet – From Yerushalmi to Sweet Potato, these Kugels can be made with noodles, vegetables, or any other Kugel classics you can think of. Just make sure it hits the sweet spot and is good enough for dessert!
Savory – Onion, Salt and Pepper, and Potato are some of the favorites in this category. Show us your Bubbie’s recipe or your own interpretations.
Nontraditional– This category can include things like vegan or gluten free kugel but it also includes any type of unconventional kugel your mind can come up with.
