JMM Monthly Zine: Cheshvan 5784

This month’s zine focuses on Cheshvan, which goes from October 16th to November 13th, 2023.

Cheshvan is also called Marcheshvan, which is usually translated as “Bitter Cheshvan” due to the lack of major holidays this month.

What does bitterness mean to you?

What does bitterness invite?

Cheshvan can be a great time for reflecting on abundance and regeneration.

In Cheshvan, as leaves fall from trees, later to become new soil, we are reminded of how decomposition brings about new life.

What transformations are you inviting this month?

This month’s zine was made using a folding technique that turns one piece of paper into a mini-booklet with 8 pages.

You can pick up physical copies of the monthly zine in the Lombard and Lloyd Library or download a PDF version here.

Lombard and Lloyd Library is located in the grassy corner of the JMM’s campus at the intersection of Lombard and Lloyd Streets.

Check out this guide on how to fold-and-cut an 8-page mini zine.

We hope to provide space for people both at the JMM and beyond to share their thoughts and creations as they relate to where we are in the Hebrew calendar.

If you would like to contribute to the zine, please email the JMM’s Communications & Public Art Coordinator, Naomi Rose Weintraub, at nweintraub@jewishmuseummd.org.
