Cinema Judaica: After the War (3)

Filmmakers did not abandon these topics after the war ended in 1945.  Stories set in the midst of the recent war were popular for several years, but others tackled post-war issues, such as the continuing problem of anti-Semitism in America, and the efforts of war refugees to rebuild their lives and cultures both at home and in Palestine. The success of feature movies like Gentleman’s Agreement (1947) and Sword in the Desert (1949) led to the further development of these themes in the films of the 1950s and 1960s.
