Museum Matters: August 2016
This August, in conjunction with Beyond Chicken Soup: Jews and Medicine in America, JMM salutes government health care professionals at the city, state and federal levels. The story of health care in America would be incomplete without acknowledging the work that these men and women perform in the realms of public policy, emergency management and serving wounding warriors both in the field and at home. On three Sundays in August our programs highlight the work of public health professionals, fire department first responders and medical officers in the uniformed services.
We are delighted to offer free admission to members of these professions, our health care heroes, on all Sundays during the month of August.
Please note the Museum will be closed on Monday, September 5th in observance of Labor Day.

Inspired by the beautiful Lloyd Street Synagogue, this series of artist-led workshops will introduce you to a new way of looking at the Jewish Museum of Maryland’s campus and collections. All skill levels are welcome, and our instructor is experienced in teaching all age ranges so please bring your entire family for a day or relaxation and creation.

First Responders Day

Join us as we honor our first responders! Both a modern and vintage firetruck will serve as backdrop for a great presentation from the Fire Museum of Maryland on the history of the American fire service.

Uniformed Services Day

In partnership with the Jewish War Veterans of the United States of America we welcome to the JMM Dr. Martin Victor, author of Doctor in Blue. Dr. Victor will discuss his time as an air force doctor, and how his faith impacted that time. Following his presentation Dr. Victor will be joined by other armed service medical professionals for a discussion of their shared experiences.

Is There a ‘Doctuh’ in the House? Jewish Physicians in American Comedy

Combination tours of the 1845 Lloyd Street Synagogue and the 1876 Synagogue Building now home to B’nai Israel are offered: Sunday through Thursday at 11:00am, 1:00pm and 2:00pm.
