Marvin Pinkert, former director of the National Archives Experience in Washington, D.C., became the Executive Director of the Jewish Museum of Maryland at the Herbert Bearman Campus in June 2012.  He has spent the last 11 years at the National Archives, where he was responsible for the exhibition and education programs.  As the director of the National Archives Experience, Mr. Pinkert worked in developing the Archives' first permanent interactive exhibit hall in 2004 and its Digital Vaults online exhibition in 2008.  Before that, he was the vice president for programs at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago for 10 years, until he left in 1999 to be a consultant in the Washington, D.C., area.  Mr. Pinkert has also served as the University Secretary at Long Island University, as Director of New Products for Quality Books, and as Assistant Director of Alumni Relations at Brandeis University.  Mr. Pinkert received a Bachelor of Arts from Brandeis University, a Master of Arts from Yale University, and a Master of Management from the J. L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University.

Mr. Pinkert said of the Jewish Museum that he intends to use the its collection to grow its audience both nationally and locally by taking advantage of online outreach.  He plans to use the museum's website, which gets about 45,000 direct visits per year, to "complement the collections and physical museum."  Mr. Pinkert's vision also includes the creation of a family environment at the museum, hoping to catch the interest of younger generations.

Mr. Pinkert succeeded Mr. Avi Decter, who directed the Jewish Museum of MD on Lloyd Street for the last 13 years.  Mr. Pinkert currently lives in Silver Spring, MD with his wife Melanie and has two children, one in Ann Arbor, MI and one in Boston, MA.
